Catalogue set-up
Categories, brands and models, components, software and outlets.
The catalogue describes what you sell. Set it up once; every laptop, part and invoice refers to it.
Categories#
Categories (catalog.categories.*). Main categories with sub-categories under them (e.g. Hardware → RAM). Each category carries:
- a code — the prefix for product codes in that category;
- its accounts — inventory, revenue, returns and cost of goods — so every sale and purchase posts to the right place;
- the taxes that apply to it.
System categories (Laptop, Power Adapter, Power Cable…) are locked against deletion.
Brands / Models#
Brands / Models holds Brands, Series, Models, CPU Series (tiers) and Generations. A model belongs to a series, a series to a brand. Laptop names are built from them (HP EliteBook 840 G7), so fix a typo here and the names follow.
Components#
Components lists the specs laptops are built from: Processor, RAM, Storage, Graphics Card, Display Panel, Power Adapters, Power Cables, Features, Connectivity, Ports. A component here is a type (e.g. 16 GB DDR4), not stock — stock of parts lives under Products.
Software and Outlets#
- Software — operating systems and software a laptop can ship with.
- Outlets — your shops and the Warehouse. Staff can be pinned to one outlet; they then see and sell only that outlet's stock.
Deleting#
Delete a row from its ⋯ menu. A record that is still used (a brand on a laptop, a category on an invoice…) is never deleted — you get a message saying where it is used.
