How the books work
Double entry, the chart of accounts, the day book and reversals.
Lapitap keeps proper double-entry books automatically. You record business events — a sale, a payment, an expense — and the matching journal entry is posted for you. Every entry balances: total debits equal total credits.
Chart of accounts#
Accounting → Chart of Accounts (accounting.ledger.accounts.manage): assets, liabilities, equity, revenue and expenses, each with a code. Categories point at their inventory, revenue, returns and cost accounts; payment methods, taxes and expense types point at theirs.
What posts where#
| Event | Journal |
|---|---|
| Sale | Customer owes (receivable) / revenue; stock out / cost of goods |
| Payment received | Money in / receivable down |
| Purchase | Stock in / vendor payable |
| Payment made | Payable down / money out |
| Return, refund, credit or debit note | The reverse of the original, for the returned part |
| Expense | Expense / money out |
| Buy-in, sourced item | Stock in / money out |
| Upgrade, fit run | Part out of stock into the laptop's cost |
Day Book#
Accounting → Day Book lists every journal entry by date with its lines. Reverse entry (accounting.journals.manage) posts an equal and opposite entry; the original stays in the books with its mirror, so history is never rewritten.
